Walking your dog, cycling, pushing your pram, or just sitting somewhere to view the beautiful sunset can all be done at this well-kept park Utterslev Mose and this place has enough space and benches for everyone. The varied nature area consist of bogs, reed forests, and has a large trail system around the tree lakes called Vest-, Midt- and Østmosen.

When to hike: All year round

Duration / Length: approx. 2 hrs / 8,5 km

How to get there: I would suggest to type in Utterslev Mose into Google maps and take public transportation or type in the restaurant called Mosehuset (Mosesvinget 3, 2400 København) into Google Maps and cycle to this parking lot for bicycles. It takes less than 30 min to get there from Copenhagen Central Station or from Nørreportt Station by bike. It is a fairly easy bike ride.

Activities: Hiking, walking, cycling, bird watching, barbecues or picnic, relaxing, and designated dog area for dogs to run unleashed at Kirkemosen.

There are various types of birds having their habitat in this park. I was surprised to see so many Greylag geese. There are apparently around 500 of them! Do you wonder where they got their name from? The Greylag Goose is "lagging" or let's say always the last type of goose to migrate to a warmer place during winter. These wild Greylag geese can often live about 20 years and are granivores, which means that they mainly eat seeds, like nuts, grass seed, wheat, or rice. You can see lots of ducks, coots (the birds with red eyes, a white bill, and frontal shield), terns, gulls, and other birds that I do not know the name of.

The park's most common tree is the wind loving willow tree. Along the lakeshore grows reed and from time to time you will encounter berry bushes but remember these are not meant for consumption. The lakes are on average 1m deep and can get up to 2m deep only.

We cycled in the park and parked the bike when we wanted to check out a spot or have a wine break. The trail is very suitable for bikes and it is definitely an easier way to explore the area without straining your knees. There were many small frogs crossing the path and you have to watch out if you do not want to roll over them. All in all the park was fairly peaceful and relaxing due to the birds roaming the streets.
