If you want an easy to follow day hike near Copenhagen to get away from the city and from lots of tourists. This hiking trail is for you! The trail is clearly marked, you will see when to turn left or right and how many kilometers you've walked every now and then. It’s fun to discover each stone marking after every kilometer on the trail :-) Sø in Danish means lake and Denmark has plenty of it. There is actually an even larger lake in Farum called Furesø but this would be around 21 km, maybe for another time. The trail is easy, as it has only a few small hills if one can call them hills. It’s not as flat as the trail in Amager Nature Park.
When to hike: All year round
Duration / Length: approx. 3 hrs / 10 km
How to get there: Take the train (S-tog, line B to Farum) from the central station or Nørreport all the way until the last station called Farum. The trailhead is approx. 100 m away from the station.
Activities: Hiking, walking, cycling, picnic, relaxing.
The trail is through forest, marshland, and farmland. The area is full of natures' beauty and you will find plenty of protection from the heat of the sun. There are plenty of benches to sit and enjoy a hot chocolate or snack. It is also very popular for cyclists, we've met a couple of groups cycling around the lake. We’ve encountered lots of animals (15)! Yes, we counted! The first animal that we encountered was a grass snake! There is only one venomous snake in Denmark the adder, so don't be alerted when you see a snake because it most likely is a grass snake. 5 out of 5 snakes that we encountered were grass snakes which have a distinct white line on their head. I think I’ve never seen so many animals in a day than here without even anticipating it. Along the route you will be able to see sheep enjoying the shadows of some beautiful trees, horses greeting you from afar, dragonflies doing there magical dance, carefree cows eating on the most delicious grass, and some fast passing lizards and mice. Oh, and I forgot to mention the gracious hawk that can be hard to spot but if you are observant enough you might be rewarded with a majestic sight.
Colors are the smiles of nature.
